Buenos Aires Herald
December 28, 2009
"We will defend our stance: a pro-government lawmaker should lead the Presidency of the Bicameral Committee of Legislative Procedure," President to Frente Para La Victoria caucus Miguel ngel Pichetto said. Besides, FVP National Deputy for Buenos Aires province Jorge Landau placed emphasis on this issue and declared: "The pro-government caucus deserves the presidency because it is the majority bloc."
The Bicameral Committee will meet for the first time since legislative reshuffle on Wednesday in Sal n Illia saloon of the Senate so as to analyze the validity of DNU emergency decrees President Cristina Fern ndez de Kirchner has signed on topics such as the Bicentennial Fund and the partial vetoes imposed on the Political Reform Law.
Sixteen is the number of lawmakers which take part in the Bicameral Committee: eight belong to pro-government parties and eight to opposition parties. They are to discuss who will take the lead among them to fill the position of president.
Each side claims that they should lead. Pichetto explained: "DNU emergency decrees are tools, instruments guaranteed by the National Constitution as legal and valid ways for the administration to act on issues that demand an instant solution." He claims that the presidency should be filled by a pro-government lawmaker.
Bicameral Committee official lawmakers are senators Pichetto, Nicol s Fern ndez, Marcelo Guinle y Beatriz Rojkes de Alperovich and deputies Jorge Landau, Luis Cigogna, Diana Conti y Patricia Fadel.
Opposition lawmakers, on the other hand, are radical senators Luis Naidenoff and Ram n Mestre, and peronist senators Adolfo Rodr guez Sa and Liliana Negre de Alonso. The Bicameral Committee is also made up by deputies Juan Pedro Tunessi and Rub n Lanceta; peronist Enrique Thomas and Coalici n C vica party member Marcela Rodr guez.
Landau lawmaker explained: "If nobody reaches an agreement, the Bicameral Committee should be able to work anyway. It should operate within a regular basis due to having constitutional status."
