How it came from the Casa Rosada
El Cronista
January 06, 2010
The one charged with asking for Redrado's resignation was An bal Fern ndez. The response from the head of the Central Bank.
"I am not resigning, period," Redrado warned this morning to UCR leader Gerardo Morales, anxious to know if he'd keep the meeting scheduled before the political firestorm that arose this morning. The resistance by the head of the BCRA to leave his office as demanded by the Casa Rosada has rapidly expanded the conflict.
The story began with an early telephone call from the Cabinet Chief Anibal Fernandez. It was not to wish Redrado a happy Day of the Kings, but to ask him something in the name of Cristina. "We need those 6.8 billion dollars (for the Bicentennial Fund, to guarantee the payment of debt) in the Treasury, and you guys are holding it up," was the reason given by Fernandez.
"I am not holding anything up, the problem is if that cash is going to make it to the Treasury, falling into embargo by the holdouts," Redrado replied from the other end of the line.
Also, the head of the BCRA made clear to Fernandez that he would remain in his office until the institutional channels are followed for him to be removed. For that, the head of the Cabinet came out publicly to say that at various times, Redrado had put his resignation at the disposal of the President.
Immediately began feverish meetings at the Central Bank among its directors, while the rumor began to circulate that the meeting with the UCR would be held at noon. The rest of the story still remains to unfold.
