Bondholders ask for details
La Nacion
March 29, 2010

The group of U.S. bondholders united as American Task Force Argentina expressed their recognition of the steps that Argentina has taken to return to the international borrowing community.

In a statement, the group led by Robert Shapiro said, however, that the government must hold a "fair operation" based on "good faith" that they also asked for in the swap of 2005.

"ATFA recognizes the steps that the country has taken to the return to the international credit community. After the approval of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the Argentine debt swap, the U.S. bondholders are anxious to see the terms of the new restructuring," they said.

According to Shapiro, "what remains to be determined is if Argentina is acting in good faith and intends to offer the bondholders of the United States and other countries a swap that would be adequate."

For his part, the Italian legislator from the Democratic Party, Sandro Gozi, recently released a statement in which he emphasized his disappointment over the plan that has come out up until now.

"The plan for restructuring the debt in default presented to the Securities Commission is another insult to Italian bondholders," Gozi said, according to ATFA.
