Into mending fences?

The statement by a senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) official on Saturday that the IMF and Argentina were discussing the possibility of jointly working in the state-run INDEC statistics bureau sounded like it could lead to a clever way out of an imbroglio. Nicol s Eyzaguirre, the director of the Fund's Western Hemisphere department, said that a "technical mission of the IMF" was ready to assist INDEC, accused of cooking the inflation books since it was overhauled by the Kirchnerite administration in 2007, into hammering out a new nationwide consumer price index, presumably to replace the current one that covers only the metropolitan area.
