Argentina's profile in the G-20 is questioned
Ambito Financiero
August 04, 2010

Argentina is probably the country with the most primitive system of economic diplomacy in the Group of 20," said Osvaldo Agatiello, professor of International Economics at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations in Geneva. The economist, who acts as an advisor to governments and international organizations, yesterday participated in a breakfast organized by the Institute of Argentine Studies (IDEAR), in which also were present Ricardo L pez Murphy, Rogelio Frigerio and Daniel Marx. In an interview with Ambito Financiero, Agatiello explained that "Argentina can't plan on being listened to in the world if it behaves like a country with an economic size and a political evolution far inferior to that which logic determines."

So he said that as a member of the G-20, Argentina has an important responsibility with Latin America "but is not responding to that because it has not resolved its internal problems." He added that "the problem is that they continue debating issues that have already been overcome within Latin America." Regarding the possibility of a return to the international capital market, the economist said that while it's true that Argentina is rapidly returning to a relevant position at the global level, "it's necessary to count on great personalities ready to assume the role of Argentina's spokespersons, and today they aren't there."
