Inflation More than Prices

Even the diluted INDEC figures for inflation should send alarm-bells ringing but both the government and the opposition fall into the trap of addressing the symptoms rather than the root causes in monetary policy the Cristina Fern ndez de Kirchner administration by threatening to deploy the archaic 1974 anti-hoarding law against rising petrol-pump prices and the opposition by moving to clean up INDEC (the size of the majority accompanying the Senate's INDEC reform bill last Wednesday is eloquent testimony of how low the credibility of official statisticians has sunk).
