USA closes the barn door

Creditors and cattlemen from the United States have put a bill before the U.S. Congress to impede the importation of Argentine beef. "The measure is to avoid imports potentially infected with hoof-and-mouth disease," said American Task Force Argentina (ATFA) executive director Robert Raben. The bill was introduced by Senators Time Johnson (Democrat from South Dakota) and Mike Enzi (Republican of Wyoming) and demands the blocking of "questionable imports" of cattle until the Department of Agriculture (USDA) certifies that Argentina is free of hoof-and-mouth disease.
